A guide to eco fencing and how to install it

A guide to eco fencing and how to install it

Growing in popularity with housing developers and homeowners, eco-fencing has much to offer. Our guide looks at what it is and how to install it.

Eco fencing

At Witham Timber, our eco fencing is a composite fencing, made with 75% recycled materials. Formed into pellets predominantly from the uPVC from old window frames, the recycled material is then blended with wood fibre. Once processed, the new material is used to create eco boards, eco panel tops, eco posts and post caps, as well as eco utility strips.

Features and benefits of eco fencing

Eco fencing is a versatile fencing solution as eco boards can be used with existing concrete or timber fence posts (a utility strip will need to be attached first to form a channel to slot the boards into). The eco boards are the same on both sides, enabling neighbours to each benefit from the ‘good side’, and concave or convex panel tops are available to give a stylish and coordinated aesthetic.

Lightweight and maintenance-free, eco fencing is durable and strong enough to withstand high winds, and all components come with a 20-year guarantee.

Installing eco fencing

Eco fence posts are very versatile and can be installed in a variety of ways:

Into soft ground – eco fence posts will slide easily into an eco fencing supaspike that has been driven into the ground to anchor it. Ensure the fins of the spoke are 10cm below ground level and once the post has been slid into place, it can be screwed into place.

Attaching eco fence posts to a concrete baseeco fencing boltdowns can be attached securely to a concrete base with galvanised bolts. Once in place, the fence post slides easily over the top of the boltdown.

Installing eco fence posts without fixings couldn’t be easier – simply dig a hole in the ground 60cm (24”) deep, insert the post and fill the hole with concrete or postcrete. As the posts are hollow, they can be filled to waist height with concrete, for fences in excess of 6 feet.

Once your fence posts have been installed, eco boards simply slide into place and stack one on top of the other to your preferred height.

Durapost fencing

In addition to our range of eco fencing, we also supply Durapost fencing, a relative newcomer in the world of fencing. Our range comprises everything you need to create an attractive fence solution, including composite Durapost fence panels manufactured from 70% recycled materials, galvanised steel Durapost fence posts, Durapost gravel boards and all the accessories needed to complete the look. Durapost fence posts can be used with the coordinating fence panels as well as with timber fence panels and featheredge fence panels. Durapost fencing is a sustainable option for homeowners – carrying a 25-year guarantee, it is 100% recyclable at the end of its life.
